Pharmacists eager to provide advanced clinical services to patients with asthma are encouraged to enroll. The course prepares the learner with the P³ Process of Care for delivery of Comprehensive Medication Therapy Management (CMTM) in patients with asthma. CMTMS has been studied and proven to improve the health status of patients while reducing unnecessary costs of care. Recently published landmark clinical trials related to pharmacologic managements are reviewed and placed into the perspective of the current guidelines. This online interactive series utilizes case-based scenarios to review patient-centered approaches to patient interviewing, shared goal setting, assessment of pharmacotherapeutic asthma regimens, and triage and referrals for patients with asthma. Based on the asthma clinical guidelines, the learner will gain the knowledge, and case-based experience to put an evidence-based therapeutic model into practice in managing patients with this chronic condition. Therapeutic decision-making and collaborative care management are covered in this case-based multi-media series. The clinician will gain additional skills in tobacco cessation counseling and peak flow/spirometry. The interactive course environment requires a strong foundation in respiratory device and knowledge of asthma medications as demonstrated by successful completion of the Asthma & COPD Community Pharmacy Series.
